You can use a Stripe terminal to save a client’s credit card information if they are making a purchase. Stripe terminals do not allow swipe and save functionality if the action is not associated with a purchase. If a customer does not want to use the terminal to save their credit card information, it can still be entered manually in the checkout flow. Saving credit cards will only work with the WisePOS.

How to Use a Terminal to Save Credit Card Information

It is important to ensure your Stripe Terminal is registered to your location. When you check out a customer and get to the payment page, you will need to select the checkbox for ‘Save card for future purchases.’ Selecting this checkbox will expose an optional Name on the Card field and the required Zip/Postal Code field.

POS Payment Method

Once you have completed the exposed field, select the Stripe Terminal (there can be multiple) that you want to use for checkout. Upon selecting the Terminal, you will see a loading state and then the prompt to insert, tap, or swipe to complete payment. You will also notice your Stripe Terminal will respond to prompt you to insert, tap, or swipe a card. At this point, the customer can insert, tap, or swipe their card in the terminal.

Save credit card

When the customer inserts, taps, or swipes their card you will see a loading state that details the card is being saved and then authorizing payment. Once the payment is authorized, it will complete and you will be provided the option to Print the receipt, Go to the Customer Account, or start a New Sale.

Customers must use an actual credit card to save it to their account. Google Pay and Apple Pay will not save the credit card.

If you would like to confirm the credit card has been saved, you can select Go to Customer Account and check for the saved credit card under Payment Methods in the Customer Profile.

*Note:

  • If the swipe to save action fails for any reason, you will be prompted to enter the customer’s card details manually to save the card.

  • If a customer is purchasing a membership and does not have a credit card on file, the Save card for future purchases checkbox will be automatically selected because membership purchases require a credit card to be on file.
