When are contacts skipped from automations?

See why contacts appear in the Skipped column of your automation stats, and how to enroll them anyway.

If you've paused your automation, contacts who met the entry condition(s) while the automation was paused won't enter the campaign when you restart it; instead, they will be skipped.

The Skipped list metric provides contact names and the times they met an entry rule established for an auto campaign when it was saved. Contacts can land on the list in the following circumstances:

  • Skipped list is generated when conditions are saved but not set live.

  • Later, when the active automation is paused, contacts are added to the list during the pause.

REMINDER: Automations are forward-facing, meaning they do not backfill past events. This means contacts who met the entry conditions while the automation was paused will not be automatically enrolled when the automation restarts.

If you want to enroll one of the 'skipped' contacts in the automation, you can add their email address via the 'Add Contacts' button on the automation.

Remember to ensure the automation and campaign messages are live before adding a contact in this fashion!
