How does Mariana Tek process credit cards?

Mariana Tek processes credit cards through payment gateways. A single studio with single ownership has their own payment gateway.

If a business has more than one location:

  • Mariana Tek utilizes multiple gateways to help minimize fraud.

  • Each studio has its gateway as well as an e-commerce gateway (shared) with the other studios.ย

  • The e-commerce gateway (aka shared gateway) is used when a credit card is saved. If the credit card is saved, then all subsequent charges use that shared gateway.ย

More specifically:

  • If buying online, the shared gateway is always used, whether or not the user chooses to save their credit card.

  • If buying at a location and the user does NOT wish to save their credit card, the location gateway is used.

  • If buying at a location and the user DOES want to save their credit card, the location gateway is used for the first transaction, but the card is saved to the shared gateway. Subsequent transactions will use the shared gateway.

  • A location gateway should never have saved credit cards.

This follows best practices to help minimize fraud. Specifically, a card used at a physical location must always use the location gateway the first time--this helps ensure that the same card can't be used at multiple geographically distant locations, which is likely fraudulent.
