Discount Codes
Here are some key points to know when creating a Discount Code for Memberships:
First Payment Interval
When you create a discount code for a membership, it only applies to the first payment interval. This is a great way to incentivize new clients by discounting their first month.
Discount Orders per Customer
When setting the number of Discounted Orders per Customer for a membership discount code, Orders means one cart per use. Selecting 1 allows one use per customer; selecting 2 lets the same customer use the code in two separate carts.
Bill on Purchase
The membership must be configured to Bill on Purchase. Discount codes will not work for memberships that are set to be billed in the future because the initial charge will be $0.
Automatic Discounts
Here are some key points to know when creating an automatic discount for Memberships:
Discount for Multiple Payment Intervals
When setting up the automatic discount:
In the Discounted Orders Per Customer field, select Orders and enter the number of intervals you want discounted (e.g., 4 for four months).
If the discount is made inactive during the four months, the remaining months will not be discounted.
If a customer buys the same discounted membership twice, they’ll get 4 discounted payments per membership, 8 total.
Discount Display
Future discounted payment intervals from an automatic membership discount won’t appear anywhere in the system.
For example, even if a customer’s next payment is reduced from $120 to $100, their Membership page and reports like the Recurring Fee Forecast will show the full $120.
Setting Up a Discount for the First Month Only
To limit an automatic discount to the first month(s) only, use a new membership contract, or one that hasn’t been purchased yet. Otherwise, existing members will also receive the new discount.
